The eye is just like a ball which has an intrinsic pressure which keeps the eye’ “inflated “. This pressure should ideally be between 10-20 mm of Hg. If due to any reason this pressure rises,it causes damage to the optic disc and causes permanent diminution of vision. Thus this increased intraocular pressure leads to condition called glaucoma. The optic nerve carries information from the eye to the brain and is vital to seeing clearly. If left untreated glaucoma causes permanent loss of vision.

While the damage is irreversible, glaucoma treatment can definitely stop the progress of the disease and prevent further loss of vision.

Treatment modalities
1) Antiglaucoma medications - like drops or oral medications are given to reduce the intraocular pressure
2) Surgeries - Trabeculectomy or glaucoma drainage surgery may be advised in some patients
3) Medical and surgical management (Trabeculectomy and AGV implant)
